Phillips, Springsteen and Mayer Headline 'Rock in Rio'

"For the integrity of the show, to me this [Phillip winning] is a travesty. The result this year solidifies the reality of idol no longer being a talent show … But a popularity contest. Unfortunately I’m not the first to have noticed. I tip my hat to both Jessica and Phillip. Hoped for a different outcome. #idol”  ~Stefano, 5/23/12

Gotta hand it to Phillip Phillips... for a "travesty", he's sure doing pretty well for himself these days! His song Home recently went 4x platinum, becoming the biggest selling single by an American Idol alum in history. His critically acclaimed album, The World From The Side Of The Moon, is also well on its way to going platinum, selling 750k copies to date. His 2nd single, Gone, Gone, Gone, is flying up the radio charts even faster than Home did, and is a sure fire bet to go platinum, as well.

Phillips also just completed a mini European Tour, which followed his month-long tour with Matchbox 20, which followed his acoustic college tour. On deck: A live appearance on Idol, followed by an extended, electric, full band tour headlining mid-sized venues.

Oh, and this just in hot off the press: Phillips will be flying to Brazil in September, where he'll be closing out the gigantic "Rock in Rio" music festival with co-headliners John Mayer and some guy by the name of Bruce Springsteen on the featured World Stage.

Oh, and not to rub it in or anything, but last week Stefano's ex-girlfriend Haley Reinhart tweeted she'd definitely be down collabing with Phillip sometime, too. [OK, so maybe I am rubbing it in. Sue me!]

So, to the Stefanos of the world who have enviously hated the unbelievable artistic and commercial success of  "the travesty" that is Phillip Phillips, how do you like him now?

You know what? As a peace offering, maybe we should send Fano this lovely t-shirt, giving him the opportunity to tweet a picture of himself wearing it and recant his douchebaggary. Wouldn't that be a sweet gesture from Kenny Poo?

What say you?

  1. Sorry to burst your bubble "Poo", but Stefano was right. Phillip is lucky he's been given the full promo and marketing of Interscope, because he certainly can't sing. Oh, and notice how his own written music is buried in his album but doesn't get released to radio? Because he is a phony. If Jimmy Iovene wasn't such a sexist pig, he'd have given Jessica the best song on Finale night and she'd be the winner and multiplatinum star.

Phillip will be a one hit wonder who gets dropped after his next album. Guarantee it.

    1. Really? You honestly believe this is all just luck, sexism, and money? If so, wouldn't labels have a 100% success ratio in cranking out multi-platinum artists? Come on...get on the reality train, FZ! You're obviously still feeling jilted because your favorite didn't win last year. Isn't it time to just accept the facts?

  2. Nope, it's Sanchez who will soon be Gone, Gone, Gone. If not for the Save, she would have been ousted early on the competition. She was a pageant bot singing old fashion ballads. She has the worse selling track record of any runner-up. Her EP sales lagged behind Phillip, Josh & Sylar. She could not sell out in her hometown on the tour, whereas Phillip, Josh & Skylar all did. Iovine obviously has no interest in her. May is the worse month for new CD releases.

  5. Kudos Kenny Poo! The best revenge is Success, and Phillip is doing just that in spades! He is doing his thing with class; respecting others like the Southern gentleman that he is! I am a 67 yr old grandmother who likes all kinds of music and I recognized his talent early and voted for him every week! When did it become the norm to disrespect others when they don't agree with your taste in music. It is called poor sportsmanship; better known as sour grapes. Nuff Said!I
    I love your blog Kenny

  7. Great blog, Kenny. When are people going to realize that Phillip is the real deal? Probably never. BTW, what did Stefano mean by that comment? He tipped his hat to Jess and Phil, was he referring to Joshua missing out or Phil winning?

    1. The 'travesty' he referred to was Phillip. Fano's not a fan of P2, and was outraged when Jessica lost. The "hat tip" was just some smarmy douchebaggary after he slammed Phillip for "having no talent", and accused America of voting for him just because he's a WGWG.
